My name is Jason Bohde. I have been continuously teaching and performing for over twenty years. I started teaching in a small music store in Mount Clemens, Michigan in 1999 while studying music at Oakland University. I have maintained an active studio ever since in my home, in students’ homes, through music stores or small studios. Though my main instrument is the trumpet, I also offer lessons on the trombone, baritone/euphonium and the tuba. I teach all ages (though the youngest student I taught was 5 and my oldest is 84!) and I teach various styles of music. I studied the trumpet with William Lucas of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the University of Michigan and Gordon Simmons of the Michigan Opera Theatre and Oakland University. I have performance experience with many types of ensembles including rock/horn bands, blues bands, brass bands, Civil War-era bands, big bands, jazz combos and even polka bands, as well as solo repertoire for church services, weddings and funerals.

I moved to North Carolina in 2009 to finish a degree in middle grades mathematics education, graduating from North Carolina State University in 2013. I continued to teach and perform while getting my degree. I taught math in Chapel Hill immediately following graduation, but my passion for music remained. This led me to pursue music education full time. Beginning with my arrival in North Carolina in 2009, I taught for ten years out of Music & Arts in Durham before starting my own studio at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. I was a Top 10 Finalist for Music & Arts’ Music Teacher of the Year 2019 and I strongly believe in the dynamism and benefit of music as an instrument of human expression and its effect on the brain and cognitive development.
